Galatians 5 is a letter that Paul writes specifically to the Galatians Christians and the Galatians’ church. Some strife was among the Galatians church over the matter of living by the LAWS primarily, and living by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was definitely the driving force of the church back in this day unlike now. In my honest opinion it’s why “The Church” grew so quickly during this era. It wasn’t necessary the preaching of topical themes on the do’s and don’ts in life, but more on sanctifying ourselves in Gods Love vs. legal principles. Sanctifying as in 1) freeing ourselves from sin 2) approving what is right and to 3) make holy. They learned to listen to the Holy Spirit more as their guide and counselor vs. only law or commandment memorization.
One way to put it would be the Holy Spirit is not a machine. Asking the same answer He will guide us to the same righteous result. The Holy Spirit knows who we are and what we are going through and knows how to speak to us in such a way that we will understand at that time in our life with….”THE WORD”. God’s Word is never replaced and actually it was first….”In the beginning was the Word…” . The Lord gave us one incredible interrupter. An interrupter that helps us decipher and conduct our daily lives in step with God’s will. Galatians 5:25, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit”. And not only is He an interpreter but a power resource that can compel us to produce a fruit that models Christ. A fruit that ultimately always comes back to “Conducting in LOVE”. All of this BECAUSE we can make a daily conscious decision to do so. What are these fruits?
Love Joy Peace Longsuffering Kindness Goodness Faithfulness Gentleness Self-Control
The above list of fruits in your life don’t come by memorizing them first, and then live them out. You live-out a life of love and the fruit comes out of you without memorization of the list. That fruit (Character), comes through abiding in the Holy Spirit daily. As a believer who has accepted Christ in your life you have this same spirit that dwells within you. Make your day even better by not operating alone. Call on the wonderful counselor of the Holy Spirit within you to guide you today.
“…the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
Romans 8:26 (NIV)
"Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our condition, and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
