  Chapter 3  verses 8-17
  Preparation For Ministry Cont.

8 Therefore bear fruit worthy of repentance, 9 and do not presume you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father’; for I say to you that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. 10 Even now the axe is lying at the root of the trees; so any tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
11 “I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is greater than I—I am not worthy even to remove his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clean out his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan river to be baptized by him. 14 But John tried to prevent him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet do you come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him. 16 And when Jesus was baptized, just as he was coming up from the water, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, in whom I delight.”
